The Floating Piers by Christo and Jeanne-Claude

BRESCIA Lake Iseo, Sulzano – Monte Isola

Bulgarian artist Christo (born 1935) and his wife Jeanne-Claude (born 1935-2009) have dared to wrap and transform monuments and landscapes throughout the world.

For sixteen days – 18 June to 3 July 2016 – Christo‘s latest project The Floating Piers reinterprets Lake Iseo in ItalyThe installation offers the unique experience of walking on water.

A 3-kilometer-long walkway extends across the water of Lake Iseo to form The Floating Piers. The installation is constructed of 100,000 square meters of shimmering yellow fabric and 220,000 modular cubes which undulate with the movement of the waves and offer an extraordinary experience. The fabric continues along 1.5 kilometers of pedestrian streets in Sulzano and Peschiera Maraglio.

The Floating Piers is not just a work to be admired, but one to be enjoyed, touched, walked upon and run on, preferably barefoot’ – states Christo.
