WHO ART YOU? 5 | The Rebirth – International Contest for Emerging Artists

Who Art You ?

We are very happy to renew our media partnership for this project that we follow with admiration and passion since its birth (year 2012) and we strongly invite all emerging artists who read us to participate!

NOTE: it’s possible to apply until 19th April 2018.

MILANO WHO ART YOU?, the international art contest in painting, sculpture and photography dedicated to emerging artists is back once again. The competition, which led the most interesting new entries in the contemporary art market during the past editions, was established in 2016 with the need to make room for a new generation of young talents, aiming to approach them to art experts and professionals, thus providing them the chance to make their way in the art field, through the cooperation and matching with other artists. A unique event that involves artists, art critics, gallery owners and journalists for the young up-and- comers promotion, designed to facilitate their entry in the art market.

Who Art You? wants to foster the network of strategic relations between art institutions and professionals, as well as to sustain the artists integration in the art world. The yearly contest took place from 2012 to 2016, developing and thriving with the support of Milan Municipality and Lombardy Region, taking place in fancy locations like Fabbrica del Vapore, Ex Fornace and Design Library. The first 4 editions had the participation of Italian and international artists, with the endorsement of prestigious sponsors and the collaboration of important brands like Carlsberg, Maimeri and Meltin’Pot, strategic synergies for the emerging artists to dialogue with. Since 2014 the artists had the chance to join the Special Editions, international editions of the contest abroad, which took place in London, Zurich and Berlin and which had a great sales and image success.

After 3 years of silence, reflection and growth, Who Art You? is back, this time in Milan Artbahnhof’s new and recently inaugurated venue in Via Gerolamo Rovetta 18, within walking distance of Naviglio della Martesana. The new location of the Art Association, which devised the contest, is an exhibition premise with art displays, meetings and workshops in the field of art and education, which are all planned for the years 2018-2019.

The competition is open to emerging artists aged between 25 and 40, who want to submit their artworks, no later than April 19 at midnight, in the disciplines of PAINTING, SCULPTURE and PHOTOGRAPHY. Among thousands of applicants Artbahnhof’s Creative Team and Jury will pick only 30 talented artists, who will exhibit their works during the event, that will take place from May 18 to 23. The 30 selected candidates, which number is sharply reduced compared to the past editions, will have the chance to join the educational workshops in their relevant discipline. The workshops will be also an opportunity for the Jury to get to know the candidates and to evaluate their talent and skills. The Jury will then announce the 3 winners of the competition, one for each category, who will be awarded with a solo exhibition and a personal catalogue, as well as an absolute winner, who will receive a prize money. The biggest news is the location, the new identity and the educational background of the event. The workshops will be essential to directly evaluate the artists in the way in which they work. The theoretical workshops instead, will be useful for the artists to learn new skills on how to deal with the art market. A 6-day art manifestation dedicated to artists education and development, to the exchange and dialogue between different disciplines.

Artbahnhof wants to be the intermediary between the art market and the winners announced during the opening, aiming to having them in the event calendar of solo exhibitions and providing them the chance to show their works internationally by joining a Special Edition Abroad. Designed to free their creative energy and meet the opportunities that Europe has to offer, Who Art You? will give the artists a chance for a renewed and auspicious personal and artistic growth.
