MADRID During our summer stay in the Spanish capital – to organize The [Madrid] Midnight Run * 26/27 Jul.’14 – we’ve shared some photos on Instagram with the two hashtags #MadridON (by day) and #MadridOFF (by night) promoted by @igersmadrid.
One of our shots “by day” [subject: a forbidden traffic street sign with polka dots, found in the Barrio de las Letras, whose pole has obviously also a CCT-Sticker attacked] has been selected, and so… @cctseecity is a winner of the contest! The prize? Our photo is on display in the first Instagramers Gallery of Europe! Which is located inside the beautiful Espacio Fundación Telefónica Madrid – Cultura Siglo 21, on the ground floor, at the entrance of the building, where there is also a Café to chill… right in the heart of the city: calle Fuencarral n.3!
This photo gallery dedicated to the most virtuous #instagramers was inaugurated on 4th April 2014 with the support of Fundación Telefonica but above all thanks to the initiative by Phil González and Jorge Martínez, founders and directors of the Instagramers Gallery that in December 2013 has opened its first place in the world, in Miami. They explain that their global project was born with the ambition of becoming the largest virtual gallery of “mobile photography” and be a potential reference exhibition space for all photographers with smartphone and talent. This way, Phil and Jorge bring Instagram into a physical space but “not all there is in the internet deserves it” – they say. In fact, the intention is naturally to make a good selection and show only the best.
From the phone to the internet, and from there to the walls of the Espacio Fundación Telefónica Madrid, in the first Instagramers Gallery of Europe. Here the temporary exhibitions promote snapshots by photographers – mostly unknown – taken with their smartphones, and selected by a team of experts. All images will have in common the way they have been shared: through Instagram, described by Wired magazine as “the social network with more interaction”.
So if you’re in Madrid, you should definitely visit this place! First of all, to see our photo (!) but mainly because – in addition to the Instagramers Gallery – since 2012, l’Espacio Fundación Telefónica continually hosts important art exhibitions that tell the contemporary culture… and admission is free!
