NEW YORK “My Blueberry Nights” (2007) è il primo film in lingua inglese e girato in terra americana del regista cinese Wong Kar-wai, uscito in Italia con il banalissimo titolo “Un bacio romantico” (classico orrore a causa della stupida ostinazione italiana di voler tradurre sempre tutto, sciupando parte fondamentale dell’opera – il titolo – in questo caso cinematografica).

Elizabeth (la cantante Norah Jones che qui esordisce nel grande schermo) lascia New York e parte verso la California per dimenticare un amore che l’ha tradita. Lascia così anche il nuovo amico Jeremy (Jude Law), gestore di un piccolo Café dove ogni sera trovava comprensione e cercava di addolcire il dolore con un piatto di torta ai mirtilli e gelato alla crema (impossibile da non desiderare, vedendo questo film!). Elizabeth viaggia, lavora qua e là come cameriera e conosce persone con storie complicate e infelici. Ogni incontro la spinge a conoscersi, come se gli altri fossero uno specchio dove potersi riflettere e definire se stessi. Quando sente di aver imparato questo, decide di tornare a New York ed avverte subito Jeremy, al quale durante quei 12 mesi di viaggio ha costantemente inviato cartoline. L’attesa, il desiderio e l’attrazione li riuniscono in un bacio così sublime, sensuale e delicato. In più, la colonna sonora è un incanto: tra le altre canzoni, The Story di Norah Jones, Try a Little Tenderness di Otis Redding e The Greatest di Cat Power. Con estrema raffinatezza, il regista muove la telecamera tra vetri, luci e specchi, creando una poesia di riflessi e un’atmosfera a tratti onirica. Un vero capolavoro.

NEW YORK “My Blueberry Nights” (2007) has been the first English language film and shot in America by the Chinese director Wong Kar-wai.

Elizabeth (the singer Norah Jones‘s debut on the big screen) leaves New York and travel towards California to forget the love that has betrayed her. She also leaves the new friend Jeremy (Jude Law), a manager of a small Café where every night she used to go to talk with him and to soothe the pain with a gorgeous blueberry pie and ice-cream. Elizabeth travels, works as a waitress in some pubs and knows some people with complicated and unhappy stories. Every encounter leads her to know more herself: these people she meets are like mirrors where she can reflects and defines her person. When she has learned this, she decides to return to New York and informs Jeremy, which during those 12 months of travel has constantly received postcards from her. The waiting, the desire and attraction combine them into a sublime, sensual and delicate kiss. In addition, the movie soundtrack is a delight: among other songs, The Story of Norah Jones, Try a Little Tenderness by Otis Redding and The Greatest by Cat Power. With great sophistication, the director moves the camera between windows, lights and mirrors, creating a poem of reflexes and sometimes dream-like atmosphere. A true masterpiece.
